The selection process of SSC CGL 2018 is divided into four Tiers, these are; Tier-1, Tier-2, Tier-3 and Tier-4.

Since last year, there have been some major changes made by SSC in the examination pattern. Now, we will discuss the exam pattern of each tier separately in brief for your better understanding.

SSC CGL Exam Pattern for Tier 1

  • SSC CGL 2018 Tier-1 examination will be online based with multiple type questions.
  • Candidates will have to answer 100 objective type questions in total with maximum marks of 200, each question carrying 2 marks.
  • Candidates will be supposed to finish the entire exam in the time span of 60 minutes. For visually handicapped students and the ones who are suffering from cerebral palsy, the time limit is 80 minutes.
  • There is a negative marking of 0.50 marks for each wrong answer, though, there is no sectional marking.

SSC CGL Exam Pattern for Tier 2

  • SSC CGL 2018 Tier-1 examination will be online based with multiple type questions.
  • Candidates are required to pass Tier-1 exam in order to be eligible for Tier-2 exam.
  • The exam consists four papers of 2 hours each. Paper-1 and Paper-2 are mandatory for all the categories of posts.
  • Paper-3 and Paper-4 are compulsory for those students only who are interested in the posts of Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) and Assistant Account Officer (AAO).
  • Paper-1, 3 and 4 will have the negative marking of 0.50 marks whereas Paper-2 will have the negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answers.
  • No marks would be detected for un-attempted answers.

SSC CGL Exam Pattern for Tier 3

  • Candidates who cleared the above two tiers will be allowed to take this exam.
  • It would be an offline, descriptive type exam.
  • It will carry 100 marks in total and the time limit would be 1 hour.
  • In this exam, students would be asked to write essays, letters and applications in English or Hindi.

SSC CGL Exam Pattern for Tier 4

  • This exam would be of Data Entry Skill Test (DEST)/ Computer Proficiency Test (CPT)
  • In this exam, candidates would have to type 8000 words in an hour or 2000 words in 15 mins.
  • This test is conducted to test the typing skills and speed of the students.
